Scared as hell

I'm scared as hell that after the surgery I am going to be hungry and want to eat. Do these feelings really go away?

For me they have went away. I've only felt hungry once or twice in the past two months--both times were when I was with people who were eating things I couldn't--but wanted to.

I know that the hunger sensation does not go away for everyone, so you won't really know until you have the surgery. Just know that even if the hunger doesn't fully disappear, you will definitely be satisfied with less. Physically, you will not be able to overstuff yourself like you could prior to surgery.

When I mentioned to my surgeon that I hadn't felt hunger, he told me that eventually the hunger sensation will start to creep back. It might not be similar to before surgery...but it'll still be there.

What about mentally hunger

Don't be scared of the urge to eat after surgery, I can all but promise you that you will have unbelievably strong cravings for the first few days. It's called head hunger, we all go through it. Just be ready, know what you're dealing with.

The good news is , the intense cravings are short lived. They will for the most part be gone within a week or so.

The mental hunger is pretty difficult to shake. There are times that I see something I want to eat, then I stop and try to pay attention to my body. Is my stomach growling? Do I feel hunger pains? If I don't, I'll try to down my Water and **try** to forget about it, or I'll grab something more healthy that I know will fill me up. Now that I'm 2 months out, I'll eat a string cheese.

When I was on purees I would eat some refried Beans mixed with lots of greek yogurt and salsa.

When I was on liquids, well...that was ROUGH! Nothing really helped the mental hunger at that stage, for me.

It seems to get easier to handle the mental hunger the further I am post-op. I don't know though...each day is different.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
