11 Weeks...Calories?

Recommended Posts

I'll be 11 weeks out on Monday. I never received a calorie target from the NUT, so I'd like some guidance/advice on what info others have gotten from their doctors or NUTs.

I'd appreciate any advice from the vets, too! Thanks!

Mine gave me a calorie goal of 1500, with 85g Protein. From what I've been reading, it seems like a lot compared to other people. I'm about halfway there on a daily basis already and just over 2.5 weeks post-op, though - so it may not be as far fetched as I think.

Thank you! It's frustrating that we all get such varying information.

I was never given a calorie target, but at my last office visit I told my surgeon's nurse that I was eating around 500 calories a day and she said that was great. My Protein target its 45-50g a day, which I am having a lot of trouble with lately as I transition away from shakes before Jan 1 by my surgeon's direction.

I'm 10 days out and I've been worried about not taking in enough calories. I'm averaging about 400 calories per day; but I feel good; not weak at all. Guess I'll ask my Dr. In a few days when I see him again.

We only got Protein and Water targets plus guidelines on food choices during the different post op phases.

For me, I wish we were given more specifics. However, I made due and educated myself as time went on with help from family members and posts in this forum. My goal was simple: just find something that works for me, is not overly complicated and is something I can stick to until weight loss phase is done. After weight loss phase, I think I am going to eat a Mediterranean style diet.

With that said, my calorie intake was 400-500 until about 6 weeks. Following 6 weeks to 5 months, my calories were between 600 and 800 calories. After 5 months, my calories have been between 700 and 1100.

I eat every 3 hours and try to consume 3-5 ounces of Protein, eating veggies where I can. I only track protein grams daily, but not obsessively. After several months you get a good intuition about grams and ounces when eating the same foods all the time. Otherwise, labels, measuring cups and food scale really helps to be accurate.

Hope this helps.

My doc only gives Protein goals and carb maxes... No calorie help at all... I could use some guidance because I feel stalled and dont know if I am eating enough... I am almost 10 weeks out and average 650 calories per day...

I'm afraid that I'm eating too many carbs. I'm relying on at least 2 Protein bars and 2 Protein shakes a day to get my Protein in.

I know I can't do that long term bc of the calories and carbs but it's the ONLY way I can get in so much protein right now. :/

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
