Mental VS physical

Ok sleevers, Im set for 12/26, I've had a c section and TT so I'm not concerned with the pain, I think I'm more nervous about the mental part. Especially for the first few days! Thoughts?whats it like? Ahhhhh

Hi ortega. I was sleeved on 12/19 and did well. I didn't need any pain meds,, got in my walking and have been working on getting in my Protein. Some advise, if you get gas pain in your chest, shoulders just do shoulder rolls, back and forth and squeeze together...it relieved it fairly quickly. I also would rub my stomach in circles to move it around, just lightly over the incisions of course. I was sent home the following day and as of this morning am down 10 lbs. :) Just keep your eye on the prize and try not to focus on what you CAN"T eat. I'm not hungry at all, so it's been pretty easy. Good luck!

The first few days after your sugery you are busy just trying to get in the groove of your eating routine. You will be sore, but force yourself to get up and walk. That really helped my recovery. I would go two times a day, and each day I increased by walk. The first few days, I was just estatic to get to the end of our city block by the end of the week. The most hard part mentally is just the normal nerves before surgery. After surgery your mind is just a buzzing, trying to get through everything you have been given to read, trying to follow your eating plan, getting all the vitamins/meds in, trying to walk and taking naps to let your body start to heal. Good luck, you will do well. Just keep your eye on the prize. It is the start of a new you.

I'm going to share my experience with you, not to be negative, but so that just in case you go through what I did- you'll feel better knowing it happened to someone else! (I didn't feel prepared for it!) I was miserable! I had never had surgery before and I think I expected to bounce right back- and it doesn't work that way. I definitely walked to help the gas pains, which I found to be much worse that the actual pain from the surgery. The first two-three days, I had a lot of nausea and dry-heaving, which in turn made my abdomen hurt more. I was taking nausea meds, but I think it was just my stomach re-adjusting? I was tired and weak, and quickly got bored of being home, but at the same time didn't want to do much. I had to sit/sleep in a recliner for the first few days and used a heating pad because I had a lot of back pain.

As for the mental part- it is a big part of it. I stayed away from my fiance and stepson when they were eating. I just felt it was easier because after awhile I began to crave "food" as opposed to liquids. But, there's the mental part- I wasn't really hungry, just wanting the texture/taste. I also noticed that my sense of smell was hightened. Sometimes my fiance would cook something or bring me a certain flavor of drink, and it would just turn my stomach and make me nauseous.

But, as everyone said, it is worth it. "This too shall pass" is what I kept telling myself. Each day post-op gets a little better. And from other people that I talk to that are further out of surgery- it is a mental game. Adjusting to your new body, new compliments/attention, overcoming food cravings, etc. YOU CAN DO IT THOUGH! i would have 50 csections again before undergoing this surgery. between blood loss, collapsed lungs, blood clots, etc and the procedures necessary to fix those...the c section was a cake walk!

There was that one moment the day I got home when I said to myself, "There is no turning back. This is forever." It wasn't a feeling of regret, more like resignation and then acceptance.

Just remember everyone's journey is differant, but keep a positve attitude and take one hour at a time if that is what is needed. And remember why your are doing this, and think about how good you will feel and look in a few short months.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
