Clothes not fitting :-(

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on the 14th and have lost 23 lbs. But none ofmy presurgery clothes fit they are all to tight. Could my stomach still be that swollen? Sort of depressing the scale is going down but my size isn't. :-(

It took me 50 lbs to drop one size. Then at 3 mo i hit a 5 week stall and dropped 4 sizes. I carry much more fat in my belly so it seems to make it harder to drop sizes. Now my pants are all saggy in the bum lol.

I lost a lot of weight the first 3 weeks then I stalled for 3 weeks and lost 3 or 4 sizes at once. I still go through phases where if i am not losing pounds I will drop a size or will lose consistantly for a month or 2 and not change sizes at all.

I stayed in Jammie's for two weeks after surgery! The gas they used had my belly so swollen that I couldn't suck it in. Even though I felt okay and didn't feel gassy, my belly was very swollen. I have lost 49 pounds also and just got in to one size smaller. Now my jeans are really loose. I just got home from my in-laws and I walked into my bathroom and the butt of my jeans was sagging almost half way to my knees!!! I LIKE IT!!!

Wish there was an easy explanation, but don't be discouraged. I think it was 40-50 pounds before I truly went down a solid size in clothes. It happens slowly size 18 and up, then a little faster. Once you hit the 12/10/8 range it just flies by!

In the beginning, it's mostly Water weight from glycogen stores being used up by your body. Your muscles store something like a few days worth of energy stored as glycogen to burn for energy if it's not getting enough quick-burn energy (hence going to slower burn protein). Water is stored with the glycogen, so once it's burned the water goes with it. There's a real scientific answer out there, I know I linked to it in an older post.

Keep the faith, it will happen for you!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
