Delayed Effects of a Fill???

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me why some of us do not feel a fill kick in for a week or so afterwards? What is the cause or reasoning behind this? I find it very confusing since I feel restriction immediately after as a result of swelling......then for a few days I feel like I have no restriction at all, then a few more days I feel some restriction...etc....what causes this?

IMO it's because our bodily tissue is not made of plastic; it's living tissue and reacts to increased pressure in various ways. I have the exact same experience with fills kicking in weeks later; I think my stomach tissue "retreats" or thins out directly after the fill in response to the pressure, and then "returns" to its pre-fill thickness. THAT'S when I feel the increased restriction.

I have no medical background but I've shared my theory with several surgeons and they all think it's as plausible as any other explanation. ;)

Thanks Alexandra:

I'm so confused...it changes daily...one day I can eat the kitchen clean, the next day I struggle with a few bites and then it changes again. Monday will be one week from the last fill and I really hope that soon I can recognize some consistency with the restriction level so that I know where I'm at.

My restriction is contantly changing. Some days I feel like I can eat pretty much anything. Other days, I need to stick with mainly soft foods. It's weird, but that's the way our bodies work, I suppose.;)

Hello there,

My band got to that point too; i felt as though i could eat anything one day and some days I couldn't barely eat anything without feeling completely restricted. I went in for a filled and learned that the band restriction changes during the day, for ladis-sometimes at your time of the month you feel very restricted, in the morning most people are very tight, and in the evening very loose. Also, weight loss can make the band become more loose causing the feeling of less restriction.

Thats a funny funny thing. I'm 15 months post op, have had six fills including the adjustment two days ago. Every fill or adjustment I have had has been that way. I usually don't feel the results, or restriction for two or three days then all the sudden its there. My restriction, or feeling of restriction changes from day to day. It depends on so many contributing factors. Everything from the weather, to physical activity. Don't allow it to bother you. Thats just one of the changes you will experience in your body and lifestyle. Its well worth it too, don't sweat it, concentrate on the positive.

It worked for me. 15 months out,

201 pounds lost, at personal goal.

Life is good!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
