Is salt to be avoided? I ask because I want a lime with salt. But also, it's the first seasoning I'll be adding to my food since surgery.

As you know, every sleeve is different and every doc is different and recommends different guidelines. However, mine cleared me for salt and other seasonings (even tabasco sauce) at my one week appointment. I use salt, tabasco and other hot sauces daily without any problem.

I find some stuff irritates my sleeve, but it's not dangerous - it just doesn't make me feel good. (I'm at 4 weeks post).

I would watch out for sodium intake though - especially during the first few weeks of the diet when we *can* eat we fall back on what comfort foods and prepared stuff we can. The result for me is that my sodium intake has been way above normal. I'm compensating for this and it's largely a function of laziness on my part ("wow! I can have that canned soup!" instead of cooking some myself) as well as some rejoicing at getting old favorites back.

Generally, our salt consumption will be fairly low due to our overall consumption being low. Adding a bit of salt as seasoning usually won't make that much of a difference to your overall sodium levels - most of the sodium in our Western diets comes from processed and restaurant foods rather than what we typically add while cooking at home or for seasoning. Read the ingredients labels on the box and look for things like monosodiumglutamate - that's were the bulk of our sodium comes from.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
