Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 9/28/12, i am 11 weeks post op and i am very worried! i had problems in the beginning with dehydration and hyplori and pancreatitus well. I was dilated during one of my hospital stays and now i am able to eat pretty much anything! I do not like this at all and am starting to feel like a major failure. I know i am the only one that can control what i eat, and i do get full very easily, but why do i have no restrictions? even sweets, no dumping, any suggestions and can dilation be reve

Ok, so are you eating more now than usual? After dilation, do you still get full, since your stomach is smaller?

Then you have restriction.

You need to plan your meals and weigh your food. This is how most people that loses a lot of weight does it.

There is no ther way really as most of us will eat too much if we dont measure our food portions.

Dilatation is usually just at the top where the food enters the stomach.

Good luck.

Yeah, the dilation has to do with getting food in to the stomach. I had to have this done on Friday because it was difficult for me to eat *any* food at all, even soft foods like mashed potatoes. Remember, the sleeve is a tool, not a magic fix. We still have to pick and choose what we're going to eat in order to have success. Just being able to eat food isn't a sign of failure :)

Not everyone dumps and most of us can eat a pretty good variety of foods so do not panic over this. If you are getting full on small amounts then you still have restriction. As others have said now is the time to watch what and how much you eat which is something that you control not the sleeve.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
