I am about 3 month out (hopefully) from having surgery. My two biggest fears are having a leak and loosing my hair. Can someone that has experienced these comment on how bad it was an how you felt with it. Thanks in advance :)

I had doubts even as I was being transferred to the table in the OR. I don't think they go away between now and then. I would guess that there are very people on this board that regret having surgery.

Since I believe that more people die from anesthesia related problems, my biggest fear was never waking up.

Leaks happen, but they are rare. Leaks are also fixable. The problems that you will have from being overweight are much bigger.

I am still in the middle of the hair loss stage at 6 months post-op. I have very thick hair, and I can see more of my scalp in some places. No one else notices. Biggest hassle is getting the hair off my clothes, sink and floor. It grows back. I'd rather wear a wig than be fat another day of my life.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for the insight. I have really thick hair as well but my solution to Hair loss is just cut it short. I also agree I would rather be Shynad Oconner than fat..(lol). I can't wait to hv surgery and be on the losers side. Thanks again.

I think those with thick hair are usually fine with the Hair loss. No one has noticed except for me. I have a few friends with thinner hair who have cut their hair shorter, but it wasn't drastic - just a new hairstyle.

The advice I was given was to take my Vitamins and get in as much Protein as possible.

I am not experienced with the Hair loss, but I did want to tell you I am also about 3 months out for surgery also. I will meet with the nutritionist on the 19th and the psychologist the same day, the classes begin in Januray and surgery will be scheduled in April. I do know the weight is causing so many problems now that I must do something. Like you I have some worries but the risks of being this heavy are worse.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
