My husband just does not understand

Recommended Posts

My husband and I are having surgery on 12/19. Thank God we are doing it together so there are no issues in our home. Our daughter is sneaking around with her meals so we don't see her eat. Excited and nervous but the forum has been a lifeline. So encouraged!

I cook dinner for my son and hubby every night....I can fix from fried pork chops to fried fish and fries.....spaghetti and garlic bread, oven fried wings and all...It doesn't bother me as much as I thought......I know they didn't choose this, I did. My hubby is 6ft and 170....he's gained 9lbs in over 20 years....My son is active so I like to feed him a good meal too....If I don't cook, they will go out to eat and I don't want them doing that....I cook with olive oil and coconut oil....I use wheat noodles and I try to be a bit healthier than McDonalds...not that it makes a huge difference but it does kind of.

Everyone is different....I did 2 Protein shakes during the day and had a Churches chicken Thigh and a pepper for dinner EVERY SINGLE DAY leading up to my surgery to include the night before....Well, the night before I had 2.....Don't kill yourself...I would have been screwed if they told me NOTHING but Protein Shakes....

No one who hasn't been through this will ever understand. There's a certain obliviousness that you will probably have to address. Give them a calm, logical and reasonable explanation if it bothers you to have them eat in front of you.

Pre op it Kinda bothered me - just because I was hungry. Post op, it didn't bother me at all.

If it is bothering you post op, ask yourself why.

It's very important to get yourself in the mindset that food is for survival- not entertainment and comfort.

That being said. I enjoy food more now than ever before. It's easy to enjoy now because I can't overdo it and there's no guilt.

You can get there too!

Hubbies tend to need some direct and complete instruction though :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
