To crush or not to crush...

Recommended Posts

I have to take 3 meds besides Vitamins and supplements. Did you have to take extra meds also? If so, did your doc let you swallow them or did you have to crush them?

If you had to crush them, what did you mix it with, and how long did you have to crush them?

Thanks for the feedback :)

Hey stink, my aunt had to crush hers and she'd mix it with applesauce w/ a bit of sugar to help cover the taste of the pills.< /p>

had no problem not crushing my meds, they went down ok and they were big, just drink lots fluids after taking them. just make sure your not crushing any time released meds, it can be dangerous. time release meds are just that, they release slowly, crushing them will give it all at once and can be a shock to your system.

I never had any problem taking most pills early on - they provided pain and nausea pills after the IV was removed in the hospital. I just took them one at a time with a sip of Water each rather than the usual handful that I used to take. The only exception was the Calcium supplement which I took as chewables for a while.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
