Surgery Date 12-27-12

Lifting pts so soon? I'd be a bit scared too! The dr released you for that activity already??

I follow up on Thursday. He said I could return to work after two weeks and he knows I'm a nurse. But yeah, I don't think I'll be ready to start doing full on nursing care by Sunday. I work in the ICU so we do full patient care too (no nursing aides or techs). When do most people return to full duty? Btw, my surgery was done laparoscopically.

GI nurse here, surgery January 7 in Seattle. Dr said 2 weeks off but employer says must be able to lift 75 lbs to return to work so 6 weeks off. Glad to have other nurses making the decision for VSG, I'm the first in my hospital as far as I know. Read alot, very knowledgable crew here!

Mine will be done laparoscopic too. My doc said 2 weeks off before returning to my no lifting required teaching job. I go to clinical with students but don't "have" to lift if I don't want. Maybe you can talk with him specifically about lift limits and restrictions??? I'd bring it up for sure. Hope it goes well.

Thanks for the advice! I'm trying to retain all I see and hear and I can use it later. Had my EGD this morning and everything is good! So I start my pre op diet in 2 days and surgery in the 27th! So ready!

How's the pre op going? I start mine tomorrow, right before all the holiday Christmas parties will be hard but I gotta stay on track!

My surgery is planned for 12-27-12. I'm scared and excited at the same time. Does anyone have any advice they want to give me? Maybe something you wish someone would have told you before during or after your surgery.

Thought I would go ahead and start off with a before pic. I can't wait to have during and after pics! the 27th can't get here fast enough!

Do t worry too much. I got all worked up and it was nothing. Wasted all that good worrying for nothing. Here I am 4 days post and I feel great. And I mean great!!! Such a relief!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
