A Bit Depressed...

Recommended Posts

I am starting my 4th week...and while I am happy with my weight loss, I am beginning to feel a bit depressed about how I am feeling about food. The first few weeks I was so busy trying to follow the rules, I didn't really think about it. But, now it is as though getting food down is harder than it was the first few weeks. This includes foods that I normally would think tasted really good. I dread having to eat my next meal no matter what I eat. My appetite is pretty much gone...and I miss it. I don't want to overeat, but I would like for the food that I eat to at least be enjoyable. Does the appetite and joy of eating in moderation come back?

It will come back...I promise. I'm sure a lot of other people will tell you the same thing. I am a little past two months out and I love to eat, I love food...I just am finally able to listen to my body and know when to stop. I don't really have an "appetite" per se, but food doesn't feel like a chore anymore. I had about 2 oz. of turkey, a tablespoon of mashed potatoes with gravy, and a little sweet potato at Thanksgiving (that is my favorite meal ever), and I think I enjoyed myself WAY MORE than I ever did when I ate until it hurt.

You might find that you like different things now. I used to be really into sweets, not so much now...but a handful of almonds puts me in heaven. Give yourself some time. I know this sounds cliche, but it really is baby steps...and those milestones will come faster than you think.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
