What Are Your Thoughts About Healthy Frozen Meals?

Recommended Posts

Since we don't eat much, I am wondering if there are any negatives about eating the "healthy" frozen meals... like from weight watchers, etc.

Any thoughts???

I don't think they're the worst option in the world, though I haven't had one. They do tend to be very high in sodium which I haven't been eating much of since the surgery so I'd just watch that.

I think most of the ones I liked had either a sauce or noodles, so for me, the options wouldn't be great since I would only get to eat a few bites of meat (I've never seen one with whole wheat pasta). Oh wait, now that I think of it, I did buy a mexican pie (I think it was called that...ground beef, corn, tomatoes, and potatoes) which I took four days to eat LOL It's in the health food section...maybe Amy's brand? I didn't worry about the carbs and fat because I eat so little it does not matter much.

Well I can't really see anything wrong with them. They tend to be high in carbs so this would be a detriment for me. I stick to Protein with only a little veggie.

I eat a lot of this stuff. While many will argue they have too much stuff in them (too much salt, too many carbs etc.) I find that they are superb for Portion Control. I eat these and then make sure I eat little else, no piece of bread on the side, no seconds etc.

We also shop around and get the ones with the smallest portions and lowest calories and sugar.

For me they are not a good option. There are to many carbs and not enough Protein. At 7 months out I eat 2 oz of prot for a meal. I would never reach my min of 60 protein if I was eating even 1/2 the meal. I buy a rotiserie chicken once a week and keep it in the fridge. I portion out 2 oz and eat on it all week adding diffrent sauces or cheeses to mix it up. I also buy frozen seasoned fish and pop it in the microwave for a quick meal. Another idea is premade tuna salad in the pouch. All are low carb carb, high protein, quick, and cheap. Hope this helps!

I tried eating smart ones for lunch for about two weeks. I lost the least amount of weight those weeks. My Protein was down and carbs were up and I wasn't even eating a full meal. I no longer eat them. Instead I just eat a piece of cooked chicken or fish with a veggie

I use them quite often, great Portion Control. Sure, some have more sodium and carbs than others, just be choosy when you look at them. Higher Protein, lower carbs, less sodium, there are lots of options.

I haven't used them since surgery but before I thought Lean Cuisine Spa Cuisine meals were good. They have whole wheat Pasta or brown rice instead of white.

For you low carbers, Atkins has started making frozen meals in a variety of different meals. Check them out at Walmart. Not sure who else caries them. I also heard that they are very good. :)

I love them for many reasons:

#1 built-in Portion Control

#2 fast and easy

#3 meat is generally in small bites and usually soft

#4 I can rely on them when there is nothing in the house or work cafeteria that I want to eat.

Shop around. There are plenty out there that are lower carb (or the carbs are separate enough that you can eat around them). Yes, they have a lot of sodium. I just drink extra Water later in the day.

I have several that I routinely buy and keep in the freezer handy.

For those of you who do eat them, what brands do you buy?

I used to buy Lean Cuisines, the ones with just meat and veggie. The broccoli beef I think was pretty good.,

I used to buy Lean Cuisine, but they have become nasty and inedible. I will eat most anything, but bleeeech! I don't even eat frozen vegetable anymore - Mushy tasteless things.

To be honest, I like to cook and do not like overly processed foods. I don't trust them anymore. Even the prepared sauces I buy have to have very few ingredients.

I've turned into the health food nut that used to annoy me.

I nearly always purchase Lean Cuisine. I have about 4 favorites that I buy and keep in the freezer.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
