On day 3 of 15 of my preop diet and I haven't really been hungry. I have a shake about every 3 hours and maybe some Jello or broth and lots of Water.

But my damn brain wants to eat! I've been at work thinking about bad foods but I'm. Other hungry.

I know I can do this... Does it get easier?

I have done a 30 day juice fast in the past, and also I've done a VLCD (high Protein liquid diet). Once you reach about day four or five the hunger goes away. You'll still have occasional cravings and mental hunger but there isn't any physical hunger after day 4 or 5.

congrats on getting through the 1rst tough days of pre-op!!!!

you are doing great with your food plan - drinking Protein shades, Jello, broth and plenty of Water - you will lose weight helping towards your WLS

more importantly - getting ready for your new eating patterns right after WLS - always drinking et al - way to go!!!!

mind does play tricks on you pre-sugery - it says "come on, you can eat this chocolate cake, and those Cookies, I won't tell"

no, no, no - its the devil speaking. you know your not hungry, don't listen to those "noises"

i think part of the head game is because you know that you really "can" eat those "nasty" foods - but you know that overdueing is not the way to go - and you are wisely prepping yourself for post WLS - head hunger???knock it off :D :D

after surgery, once you can eat, you are not "capable" due to your new and improved small tummy to eat much - you might still struggle with head hunger though - common dilema

not going to tell you that you won't ever have to deal with head hunger - hopefully it will subside especially with your hard work - you will attain your goal - get new great weight and tell head hunger where to go

.

good luck bud :)

Thanks!

I actually feel really good. Had a bit of a hard time last night but I did good. Got into a pair of pants today that I have not worn since before I had my daughter. She is almost 3 ;)

I am with you. I have been struggling through this pre-op diet. I feel week and dizzy. I have been getting plenty of liquid. So I am guessing it's carb withdraw. I went through this when I was on Atkins the first few days. But the differnece was I WASNT hungry!

It's nice to know I am not alone in this. ;)

I have been heating up chicken broth and adding some seasoning to make it seem like Soup. Also adding ice to drinks to chew on something. Sucking on sugar-free candy too.Trying to keep my mind off the hunger but it's hard.

Good luck and know I'm there with you! ^_^

My best reccomendation would be to channel those demons now if you can. Because you will have another 2-3 weeks of that diet after surgery too. It is a struggle but the more you can get your mind right now the easier the whole process will be. I worked very hard the 3 mo. Before surgery to get accustomed to the post op diets and have never struggled with regret or depression. This is the hardest part of surgery IMHO and if you can conquer it the rest will be smoothish. Water is super important and it gets way easier as the days move on!

Sorry your having a hard time. What I keep telling myself is that losing this weight prior to going under makes it that much better for my recovery and for my liver. I just found out I have a fatty liver which I am sure most of us do. I'm trying to do what I can to help it shrink and get healthy. I wish you strength. PM if you want to chat ;-) are you on our December fb group?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
