This Gets Better, Right?!

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to update this. Thanks everyone...your advice helped!

So, yes, it does get better. Much better. I was feeling back to myself about 5-6 days out. Days 2-3 were definitely the worst. Some of my incisions are a little tender but virtually no pain at all. I did find that the pain meds made me out of it and really sleepy, so I stopped taking it. Weight is coming off nicely and I can't wait until I can progress to soft foods next week.

When I progress to soft foods, will I start feeling restriction. I can drink as much as I want and have no issues. I am hoping I start to feel restriction soon and this surgery worked!

Thanks again!

I was sleeved on 11/14. I was feeling great the 1st couple days after surgery' date=' ironing clothes, walking, shopping, took a ferry to Coronado, went to Chucke cheese. Then this past Wed everything came to a screeching halt when I went to Sea World. I was struggling to breath, felt feverish, pissed because I'm thirsty but couldn't drink but a sip. I was nauseous & my vision even started to blur. Energy ran slap out. I've basically been in bed every since then trying to regain energy. I go back to work on Monday & starting to feel nervous. I know this will get better once once my diet progresses, but this is my reality.[/quote']

Lionheart, you sound like you have a leak or something. Are you doing ok?

I really thought the weight would fall faster I'm down 16 since pre op and I'm eating puréed and liquids per dr. The only puréed I've had is spit pea Soup other than that its been Protein drinks Water and Jello Greek yogurt. I do still feel the urge to always have seething in my mouth so I do just only the right stuff. I'm wondering if I should be exercising more? I climb two flights of steps 2-3 times a day with a 1/4 mile walk once a day. Going to work all week was so super exhausting since I work at a high school but hurray I'm through the first week. Anybody have ideas of what I can do to move this a long? Surgery was 11/20.

I went back to work a week later and can I tell you that I have been so weak and tired that by the time I'm home I let the dog out eat something puréed and I'm in bed by 7 and sleeping until 600 and everyday I hit the snooze. I'm down 19 lbs. now this weekend I came down with the flu. I'm miserable and think I went back too soon. Especially since I work at a highschool full of germy kids. I walk farther each day and use the stairs for extra exercise plus I park my car the furthest out I can each day. I have a half hour lunch I use to walk usually with a student. So I'm glad to be back but if you can afford extra te off take it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
