How Many Calorie's, Fats, Carbs, Sugars Are We Allowed?

Recommended Posts

I have not had surgery yet and my Consult apt. isn't until Dec 3rd, but i'm trying desperately to get the hang of all this and start getting in more Protein and get the hang of the shakes and stay within the calories, fat, carbs, sugars etc allowed. I am starting to experament now because I am a planner and get bored very easy if I have to eat/drink the same thing over and over. So today I made a Protein shake and wrote down all the nut info and this is how it went:

chocolate EAS Protein powder ~ 1 scoop

Cal130 Fat2.5 Carb3g Sugar1g Protein23g Sodium50mg

Silk vanilla Almond Milk sweetened ~ 8oz

Cal90 Fat2.5 Carb5g Sugar15g Protein1g Sodium150mg

PB2 ~ 2tbsp

Cal45 Fat1.5 Carb5g Sugar1g Protein5g Sodium94mg

Total for shake:

Cal265 Fat6.5 Carb13g Sugar17g Protein29g Sodium294mg

Does this seem right or are these too high? I don't know what kind of numbers i'm supposed to follow. Please, any info/advise is welcome. Thank you in advance

Katrina :}

Yo Mini...are you on myfitnesspal.com?? If you go there you can journal your fluids, foods, exercise..everything...and I'm on there as well. Write this down in your notepad to ask Dr U or the NUT when you take the class. My papers are not with me right now, and for the love of God I can not remember...I know low low low though on carbs, sugar and fat. Dr U tells you in the consult that starches are EVIL # 1!!!! He doesn't want us eating wheat, potatoes, bread, Pasta, rice, corn tortillas...etc. I myself plan to stick to this ( well try to ) ha ha. Even in small amounts...I feel better when I dont eat it anyway.

Oh and yes, do the unsweetened almond milk...way better for you. Sweeten it with other means if you need to.

I totally respect that you are a planner. But you need to realize that with this surgery a lot of planning goes out the window. Our tummies & taste buds dictate what you will be eating. It will be a figuring out as you go along. I would advise you to get one of everything. Don't stock up on anything pre-op because everything changes postop. And you won't be worrying abt carbs/cals intake for a few weeks.

Contact all those place that people talk about and order samples. Don't try them till postop though!

Good luck!

THIS!!!

I wanted to be as prepared as I could be, I was obsessed with having everything ready. I'm kind of OCD about planning. But all the planning in the world didn't really prepare me enough. I head of people loosing their taste for stuff, hating sweets etc and I shook my head and though NO not me! What happened? A few days post op all of a sudden I started HATING anything sweet. All the Protein I liked pre op- honestly now the thought makes me sick now. I have to try to get it in but it's a struggle. Just don't over plan because things can go way off your plan here real fast lol

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
