I read alot about complications on this forum in general, but mostly from those with Dr's in the US. Has anyone whose done their sleeve in MX had leaks, complications, etc?

Not saying the good old USA isn't up to par, but I find it a bit odd that most of those are not from the one place that everyone freaks out about.

I am pro-Mexico, can you tell? lol

I would love to hear both sides about MX and not just the good, from those who have actually had it there!! I am not talking about experiences with coordinators, etc. Just complications.

I had no complications at all!

I am a critical care nurse in Arizona and have seen many patients with complications that have had their surgery in Mexico. It is not just a US thing. I have on a few occasions codes and sent patients to the morgue that have had surgery in Mexico. They come with leaks' date=' infections in wounds and sepsis due to infection reaching the blood. Like I said this happens everywhere so please be careful when choosing a physician and remember insurance will not cover any complications following surgery if it is done in another country.[/quote']

I'm sure complications happen everywhere, and you are right to post about people doing their homework, and planning for complications. Just wanted to chime in and say that is not completely correct about insurance. Where I live, by law my insurance covers me for any complications when I get home. Same with any needed aftercare. I know that's not the case everywhere, and everyone should double check with their own insurance companies.

I had my sleeve performed in Tijuana, MX with Dr. Garcia on Oct. 30th. I was treated and cared for wonderfully! No complications. 2 nights in a Hospital and 2 nights in a very nice hotel with visits. I would encourage everyone considering WLS to do their research. I am very happy witht the decision I made and would reccomend Dr. Garcia and his team to anyone.

Had my sleeve in Mexico 1 week ago toady. Zero complications and I'm already back to work. The care I received was far better than care received here in the US. The attentiveness of the doctors and nurses was unbelievable. I called several times with questions and concerns was and was able to speak with a doctor each time. I was amazed and will forever be grateful for Dr Garcia!!

I had surgery on May 25th in Mexico. I had no complications and am still in regular contact with my doctor and his staff. I had previously had 2 c-sections, a tubal, appendix removal, and gallbladder removal surgery so I had scar tissue as well.

I called my insurance and they will cover any complications! They said if it is medically necessary, they will cover it. I just have to meet my deductible.

So I think I will find a bariatric Dr that will agree to see me post op for follow ups

This makes me feel a lot better, if complications arise!

We have pretty much the same surgical hx except I had 4 sections! I was worried about scar tissue. Did they use your same sites?

I called my insurance and they will cover any complications! They said if it is medically necessary' date=' they will cover it. I just have to meet my deductible.

Dr Almanza did 3 leak tests with me.

One in surgery- to check for leaks in my new tummy.

One with the blue dye, and watched for it in the drain tube.

One with a swallow, and they X-ray it to check for leaks.

i also have had previous surgeries. Will they cut into existing scars or will the create new ones?

I am there in Feb as well. What day is your surgery?

I had a US doctor remove my lapband. And at the time, I asked him about Mexico doctors and how trustworthy they are and reputation status. He said that some doctors in MX are more competent and capable than alot of US doctors and have more experience and are of the top bariatric surgeons world wide. I did research on the surgery and my surgeon (Aceves) for over a year before deciding to make my move. I suggest you do the same. I am a little over one year out and down from a size 24 to a size 10. I couldnt be happier. Good luck to you.
