Re-Focusing & Determined Not To Lose Hope

Recommended Posts

I don't know if it's happened to many other pre-op folks, but I had the EGD and they ended up finding a stomach ulcer and inflammation of the lower esophagus. Boo :( I have to have another EGD in 2 months to check things out again. I'm hoping this won't be permanent, and that I'll be healed up so that I can still have the VSG.

I took the news hard, because I was finally almost ready to get submitted to my insurance and losing a bit of weight. So I went right into my usual 'all-or-nothing' way of thinking these past 2 weeks...and I ate, and ate,...and ate. (Really good for the ulcer, I'm sure.) Not happy to admit it...but it is what it is, and I just gotta move forward. So I'm taking the Pepcid to help reduce the stomach acid, and trying to take the natural/homeopathic route as well.

Found out there are some roots and herbs that can actually help strengthen the lining of your stomach and esophagus: marshmallow root, licorice root, chamomile flowers, and cinnamon bark are a few. So I just got some wonderful loose herbal teas from www.mountainroseherbs.com and I'm gonna give them a shot.

This post is totally a venting/admission-of-guilt rant. I hope I don't seem too crazy....but I'm just so thankful for the great support on VST that allows me to even think about getting things off my chest. Would love to hear from anyone that maybe has had a similar pre-op experience.

Anybody can slide. What's important is that you caught yourself instead of letting it continue on.

Hopefully you will get over this hurdle and accomplish your goals. It's never as easy as we want it to be unfortunately.

Thank so much. What you said helps me put it into perspective. Especially in realizing the fact that I'm not the only one on these boards who isn't "perfect". Silly! :P I'm hoping I'll still be a candidate for the surgery when all's said and done. I wanna join the VSG club and learn the secret handshake! heh heh

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
