First Day Of The Rest Of My Life

Recommended Posts

One day post-op. Feeling like a million bucks!! Barium swallow in a few minutes, then on to my first liquids. Hopefully out of the hospital by noon. I have so much energy. Pain is VERY minimal (only in one site of 6). Walked at least 10 laps last night and this morning. Showered, dressed and ready to start my new healthy life! I hope this journey continues to be uncomplicated. Best of luck to all of you that are sharing in this experience.

I have my surgery on Dec. 26th, so I getting curious about all this.... Any chance you feel great right now because of all the drugs? Im nervous about being sidelined with pain afterward, due to needing to get back to work quickly.

Congratulations! I felt the same way!!! I walked like crazy while in the hospital. Then when I got home.

Other than a few minor issues from my hernia repair I feel great! I'm 3 1/2 weeks out.

Wish you only the best on your new journey!

No really, I have a little pain in one site, but that's it. Gas must have moved out as I didn't have gas pain or bloating. Just finished my first meal and my tummy is gurgling and burping, but no pain. It took close to 2 hours to drink 4 oz cranberry juice, 6 oz beef broth, and 1/2 a cup of sugar free Jello. Just remember once you get out of recovery and sleep off the anesthesia, get up and walk, sit upright on chair. Move around as much as possible. I was pretty nervous about the pain, but it hasn't been over a 4 on 0-10 scale. Now I can say only when I get up it may be at 2, but as soon as I take a step even that goes away. Good luck with you surgery!

That is really good to know. I only hope I have such fortune.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
