Pre-Op Question - Nausea

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Today was day 8 of 14 of my pre-op liquid diet (down 11 pounds by the way!). Until today, I felt great and realtively energized. I'm allowed 5 shakes a day and at my mid-morning shake I nearly threw up and was nauseous for some time.

One of my friends says it happens to her sister-in-law who has diabetes... Something about the blood sugar being affected so quickly. I don't have diabetes and the reaction I had was so foreign to me. Have any of you seen this?

I haven't been able to get down 5 shakes since my 4th day or so because I'm just not hungry. Last night I had to force myself to drink #3 so I wouldn't get a headache.

I'm wondering, will days 9-14 be a repeat of today? I'm hoping that this is just a standard "off" day in the pre-op phase. Any thoughts, knowledge, emcouragement would be appreciated!

Dani, I get nauseous whenever I try to live on only Protein. I am the only person I know who turns green whenever I have tried the Atkins Diet! I am sorry that I don't know the anwer to your problem, only that you are not the only one. I think maybe our bodies just aren't happy without carbs:faint: but I am not sure. Let us know what you find out. And remember that these days are limited---you will be banded soon!

Good luck!

Karen

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
