Recovery Time ?

Recommended Posts

what is recovery time like w/ revisions ? Im getting the impression from my doc that it might be a bit harder than it was w/ just the band ?

Anyone have any thoughts on if it was harder, the same , easier etc than your original band surgery ?

I really feel that recovery depends on how good of shape you are in prior to surgery.

Band - 11/2009 - I felt crappy afterwards. Getting out of bed was awful and I hurt more if I was up moving around a lot.

Sleeve - 3 days ago - I was out of bed immediately after being taken to my room, used bathroom and walked around floor for about 10mins. Two days post-op I walked my dog miles like it was nothing. I feel absolutely fabulous!

Biggest difference between now and then, I exercised 4-5 days a week for 4 months prior to sleeve. I have very minimal pain in my belly(scale of 1-10, 2, maybe 3 if cough/sneeze/hiccups). My shoulders/neck ache a bit from trapped air yet, but a dose of Tylenol and I'm good.

This is just my own personal experience, by no means am I saying you will feel as good as I do already.

I will say though, if you've got the time to exercise before surgery it's a huge benefit to you and your recovery.

thanks for the response. That's the thing I feel worse now than before the band because of all the issues its caused for me . The 3rd day was the worst for me w/ the band at day 5 I was pretty good. Hoping its like that this go around. I tend to not lay around in bed anyway , So that will help . I just feel so bad in general now I am hoping maybe i'll just feel better sooner after the band is out.

I had my band out separately, before being sleeved, so my experience may not be the same as someone doing the revision in one surgery.

After having the band in, recovery was pretty easy though i had some gas pains, and my port bothered me. But the port bothered me until it was removed. :(

Removal of the band was done as an emergency surgery, but the recovery was very easy. Again, the port incision (from removal) was the worst spot, and i lamented the new scars on my recently tucked tummy. But i was able to eat broth more easily than i had eaten anything in 2 months, and the hardest part was staying out of the gym for a month.

Getting sleeved was actually easier on my than having the band out, but that was probably because i had been in pain and unable to eat sufficiently for 2 months prior to the removal. I was up trotting the halls the evening i was sleeved, and have had an amazing recovery. Feel so much better than i did at any point during the 17 months of being banded.

Thanks y'all . I wont know if i will have it in one surgery or not until surgery day , He will try to do it in one but if my stomach is too inflamed he will do it in 2 . The NUT kind of made it sound like my recovery might be "harder' tahn someone who was just getting the sleeve but the doc at my pre op appt yesterday did not think so . So i am not as worried !

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
