November Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hi Karen,

Yes she did ...

My fill doctor also summoned around 8 cc for the final fill.

I hope that makes you feel a bit better.... both you and I have had such a small amount of fill so far, and I am sure that as we get more we will feel less hungry, eat less, and lose weight the way the band was made help us do. Hang in there and have faith.... this will work, we are just getting a slower start!!

Karen

Hi Karen,

I do not mind the slower start...

It took me 10 years to gain extra 90+ pounds, it will come off in a year or so.

I feel blessed to have this band ...It is already working, I could never loose 29 pounds (as I did so far, in 8 weeks) without it.

I know it works, not in a future tense, but as of now :clap2:

Wishing you all the best, and my fellow November bandsters...

:o This is what I have been doing and it really helps. I have the no carb protien from GNC and put some crushed ice in blender a scoop of the protien powder(I have vanilla) with Glutomine powder (which helps the protien stick in your body) put scoop of spenda, banana, some yogart and blend really well. If you need it more watery you can add soy milk or reg milk to Water it down. This fills me up really well and gives you lots of protien. You can drink this twice a day and play with the flavors you like. I even stick a scoop of Peanut Butter every once in awhile. It is hard to live on liquids when having a BLT sounds so much better but we can't do that anymore. Hope this helps!!!!

Since, I am doing so terrible at my meal planning and everything. I was just thinking about something. If I start counting my calories...1000-1200 a day and only three meals (no snacks), which is what my doc wants me to do. I can have 333 to 400 cals a meal. Some of you might be doing this now...I just haven't really thought about it that way. So...I had 2 boiled eggs and 2 slices of bacon, which was around 200 cals. I should go ahead and eat another 200...maybe I wan't be so hungry all day.

My yogurt is only 90.

My doc doesn't want me counting calories or following really any diet beyond eating mainly proteins.... I am supposed to eat no more than 1 -1.5 cups of food per meal with small Snacks if necessary. That's it.

Vikki, what size band do you have? I have a 10cc band, so my first fill really didn't do anything for me. If you have a larger band, maybe you need another fill, but even if you have the 4cc band, some people keep restriction longer than others. I would give it a couple more weeks and then get another fill if you still feel the same way. Good luck!

Karen

I have two things I want to metion...

I heard a couple of people ask about fills and why some fills work and some dont and something I never heard mentioned was this...

My doctor is Felix Speigal and he uses a surgi center which like 6 surgeons use and the staff works with all of the doctors (just said that so you guys would know it is an educated person doing the fills and not someone who has no clue what they are talking about) anyway

When she gave me my fill which is my first fill she said that a lot of times the band will absorb the first fill for sure and sometimes even the second cause they are somewhat dry. Then the second or third fill will take and hold. That may answer the question about why a first or second fill works for a week or two and then seems to do no good. But she also said some people do not have that happen sometimes first fills work.

Second I had not lost any weight like a few weeks out of surgery and I had my first fill on thursday (which the doc had put in about 1/2 a cc (is that right?) so I had some liquid in to start and he may have done more but some of it may have been absorbed) and I have dropped almost 9 pounds since then and I am very resricted not to the point that I am sick but I am taking it very slow. I am eating 2oz at a time and I am stuffed after that. So I think that makes a difference too.

Oh yes I was banded on November 15 2006 and I have lost 24.6 pounds to date. So I am pretty happy with that.

I have a ? also for those of you who eat 5 or 6 meals a day how do you get your Water down for that day? I mean I eat 3 times a day and I am pushing water all day to get it all in. Due to the 2 hr break from liquids after the meal. So how do you eat more than 3 meals and work around that?

I buy "Naked" juice (http://www.nakedjuice.com/), and "Kashi Go Lean" Protein Powder (http://www.kashi.com/ourfood/GOLEAN/Shakes/Default.aspx) ...

I mix together the Naked juice and 2 scoops of Kashi Go Lean vanilla, in a blender ...

Another question. I keep reading about people doing dry Proteins like the powders and my doc will not allow them. He said they have a tendency to clog the area that food goes through and cause problems I wonder why the difference from one doc to another.

I called them this am to confirm and they said that was in fact true. No powder proteins at all unless they are hot powder drinks like cocoa or something like that.

I have no idea Zana..., good point!

I mix my powder Protein with liquid, so it becomes liquid ...

15.2 fl oz fruit juice + 2 scoops / 120 g powder ...

What is the difference between this or "liquid protein" ? which you buy in a store ???

I use KitchenAid blender and I use the fifth speed (stir, chop, mix, puree, and liquefy) , which is "liquefy" ...

So, what could clog the area that food goes through?

Thanks for the Protein ideas! I'm going to keep working on coming up with ways to get it in. I'm handling anywhere from 2 oz to 4 oz of liquid at one time.

When I had my first fill and was very tight I tried to have a Protein Shake the next day and couldn't get it down. It was too thick. I have learned to just add more soy milk and ice to make is more watery and just take my time sipping it. I don't know why your Dr. would tell you not to use that type of protien because you need to get it somehow? Everyone one's body is different and you work with what makes you feel good everyday. What Vitamins give you energy and are easy to get down. Don't feel you can't do something if it works for you. The powder isn't cheap. The premade Protein Drinks that I get in a soda can are too thick and I have to put a half of cup of hot Water to even get it down. It is hard to get any chix down so I have relied on my Protein drinks to feel good threw out the day. It is all a science of what your body wants........what you crave..........what gives you energy. My best friend is skinny and eats breads and chocolate all day long. I cannot do that because I gain weight rapidly on carbs. Some need more sugar than others because you get light headed. It is hard to read your body but with time we can figure out what it is saying. Hope you all have a great day!!!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
