I am almost 3 months out and about to take my last PPI that I have been taking since the day before surgery (as given by my Dr). I have no problem with stopping the pills but did have a question.....when did you all stop taking them (if you no longer do)? How many of you have stopped and then found out you still needed them? Also if you answer, did you have issues with heartburn/acid PRIOR to surgery? Just trying to see what the probability is for me needing another perscription of these pills or if when the 3 months are up I am good to go. Just for the record I have been perfect so far, no issues, never had acid issues before and I am doing good post op! :-)

Thanks all!!!!!!

I'm not quite four months out and stopped taking my PPI at three months. I do still get heartburn on occasion, but it isn't nearly as bad as when I was first sleeved. Now I just take an over the counter med when I need it - which is occurring less and less frequently.

I rarely had issues with heartburn or acid before surgery (just if I ate something spicy too late in the evening). I was given a PPI after surgery & needed it every day, After my PPI ran out, I tried OTC Prevacid but it didn't work well for me. My stomach felt like it was boiling! Not heartburn, just pouch pain. I was up to a pill every 6-8 hours with little relief. I know it works well for many but I had to get a script from my PCP yesterday. Hoping it will work!

I never had acid reflux or heartburn before surgery. I was taking 2-3 Famotidine (script for Pepcid basically) since I got home from surgery on 8-23-12. It was so bad for weeks. I noticed that it got so much better the week of 10-8-12. I rarely need to take even 1 a day now. I think it's finally done bothering me, thank God. I suppose we are all different, but I still have a month's supply left in case I need it.

Thanks everyone! I am going to go off and wait a few days and see what happens....guess I will go back on if I need to! :-)

As a side note, how long without the Rx did it take you to know that you needed to keep taking it? And what is the feeling that you did feel that told you to keep taking it?

Thanks guys!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
