Whats The Reason To Chew So Much?

Recommended Posts

Why is it so important to chew a lot?

I find my self not chewing that much, and the food goes down with no problem. So wondering why the "rules" say to chew a lot.

You need to chew alot to break the food down since if you swallow too large of a piece, it may get stuck since your tummy is so small, may not be able to have larger pieces just go into our tummy like before. If you get something stuck, you will know it and get the slimes for a few minutes until you chuck it up. Chewing also helps you slow down on your eating. I ate so fast before, I probably never chewed my food. Since you can't eat that much at one time now, you should take as long as you can to eat, especially if ou don't want anything to get stuck.

I haven't thrown up but I have felt like something has gotten stuck and it's just an uncomfortable, crappy feeling.

If you get something stuck, it will be from eating too fast and not chewing enough so it is too large. Kind of feels like you have a rock there or something! When you feel that, go to the toilet and try to throw up and it will pop right out and then you will feel fine. You will also probably get the slimes at the same time. It only last for a couple minutes.

Yikes, the thought of barfing is way worse than the stuck feeling! I've never had the 'slimes' - What is that?!

You have to remember High School biology. I know, a long way back for some of us.

the stomach is the mechanical part of digestion. The acids are thrown in there and the stomach churns the food around. There is, for the most part, no absorption going on her. Pure mechanics.

Now, you just had 85% of that stomach removed. The stomach's ability to churn the food and do its mechanical thing has been greatly reduced, as you can imagine. Chewing it more is going to replace that 85% a bit. Chew more and it is going to replace that functionality even more.

I know when I don't chew enough, I can feel that clump in my intestines and it is not good.

Slimes is the over salivation that occurs when you have eaten too fast, taken too large of a bite, or not chewed well enough. You oversalivate like you have never done before. I mean ever. It happened once to mean and it was streaming out of my mouth. Crazy. It happened only once to me because you learn your lesson. You don't want that one repeating.

Why, thank you very much. I'll tell you what, I hate to sound vain, but I never get tired of hearing that.

Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.

I know for me, I'm petrified of the "slimes!" that enough is going to help me chew, chew, chew! I imagine this happening in public could be horrendous! (plus I keep thinking of my mortal enemy, garden slugs! Gasp, gag, gag!)

You don't necessarily feel nauseous or feel like you are going to barf. In fact you may not even feel like you are going to throw up. So you need to try to and I can guarantee you will just chuck a little bit up and the stuck feeling is gone. I feel it in my upper chest not my intestines.

And it goes out very fast and almost not nauseous. Instant relief. Aaaahh!!!

That sounds better! I'm thinking of the dead girl in the movie Beloved where she has Water just running out if her mouth! this sounds manageable!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
