Waiting for my first fill....

Recommended Posts

Today I saw my surgeon for my first check up since I was banded on 9/11/06. I was fully expecting to get a fill. My surgeon told me that I will have to wait 6 weeks after my surgery before I can have my fill. So I have to wait 3 more weeks. I was a little bummed.

Is this the experience of other bandsters here?

He's a great doctor, I just want to get this show on the road.

Hey there ...

I was banded 9/11/2006 as well!! so we are officially Bandmates i guess ;)

I last saw my doctor on 10/3/2006 and he told me that my next fill should take place 4 weeks after the surgery. So, I'm scheduled for my first fill on 10/10/2006.

In your case, some surgents i guess want to give enough time to get used to the band (5-6 weeks) before the first fill and they usually tell their patients when their first fill will approximately take place.

Check with your surgent if your fill can be done sooner since others do get their fills after 4 weeks not 6 weeks post surgery.

Join me in shedding the lb's fast so that we can reach or target weights together, BANDMATE :biggrin1:

Regards,

Dana

My doc makes patients wait till six weeks after surgery too. Let's them completely heal before aggrevating the stomach more with the fill. I'm impatiently waiting for mine too!

I was banded October of last year... had to wait until February to get my first fill....... talk about frustration (I was losing weight sloooowly so my doc said as long as I'm losing no fill..... so I gained weight on purpose b/c I knew couldn't continue on my own.. nice eh).

It's weird that you had to do that to be able to get the benefit you need from your band, but I applaud you. Why would a surgeon want you to go by the sweat of your brow to lose every ounce of weight when they were the ones who surgically placed a marvelous weight-loss tool inside you? Doesn't make much sense to me.

I was also wondering: once you have the surgery, could you switch to a different doctor to get your fills, if you needed/wanted to? I could see the need to do that if you and your surgeon had major philosophical differences about weight loss and the band.

I had my first fill yesterday, which was 5 weeks out. I, too, was banded by Ortiz. Although the fill doctor I used said if you are really hungry and not restricted it is time for a fill. He said 6 weeks is the standard timeframe, but every BODY and everybody is different.

Hi - I was banded 9/1 and finally got a fill 10/6 - I was starving all of the time and wasn't losing anything....

I did go to a different doc than my surgeon - and she was so great that I will go to her for everything!! How happymaking is that? She has a band, is a family doc, and was taught by Dr, Spivak in Houston how to do fills, so its all just a huge bonus...PLUS - if that wasn't great, she is only 10 minutes from my house!!!!

1.8cc fill in a 4 cc band 10/6/06

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
