How Long Did You Have The Pain In Your Left Shoulder Area?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I wanted to ask around before I started to worry. I was sleeved on Tuesday and today is Saturday. My abdominal pain is almost completely gone but I still have sharp pains in my left shoulder or upper chest area. Anyone else having this 5 days post op? Is this the gas pains everyone talks about? Is it trapped air from the surgery? Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks

Yes it sounds like trapped gas. Happens to everyone and takes 2-3 weeks to subside. Walking will certainly help you out in getting rid of it faster.

Mine lasted off and on for a little over 3 weeks.

I still have a tiny bit up inside my left shoulder -now and then and I am 10 weeks post-op. It is very small and not often but woke up to it this morning and said to my self, "Wow, is this still here?" It is such a unique pain, that I am sure it is a gas thing from surgery. Just surprised it was still here for me 10 weeks out.

I got this left shoulder pain last night and I don't think it was any issue with surgery gas. It may have been a problem with drinking too much Water too fast. I was watching a movie and before I know it, I have drunk about 22 oz. I thought that was pretty impressive of the sleeve. Then a few minutes later the left shoulder pain came on. It cleared it about 10 minutes. It was probably trapped air or something like that. I am really surprised at how much Water I can drink at 11 weeks out. I remember the first few days after surgery there was major discomfort from drink even a sip( lasted for about 4 days post op). Hope this helps!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
