Annoying Psych Eval

Recommended Posts

Hi, I had my 5 Dr's appt and seen the Psych, While I was there he asked me what husband thinks, I told himhe wasn't happy about me having surgery he asked why and I said he thinks I am setting myself up for alot of health issues and the Psych said " I think if you don't have the surgery you are setting yourself up for alot of health issues" I said I know. Then he said he thinks it'sa wonderful idea to have this done. When I told him about having 1 more Dr's appt he said he doesn't see why they make us go through that. So I left feeling postive. I called the surgeons office on Dec 28th to see if they had all the reports and such from the Dr and Psych and she said, The Psych said he doesn't think this surgery will do me any good. He doesn't think it will be successful. I am so upset!I go see him on Friday to see what the heck is up! What do you think, Please help!! Linda

Wow! I was nervous going to my eval but it turned out great! I was prepared to tell as little as possible to "pass" but ended up just having a nice convo with the Dr. & was given the all-clear. I'm so sorry for your hard times. You can see any dr you wish for the eval though. You don't have to stick to the list your surgeon gives you.

I must have had a great psych. I was pretty darn honest and got emotional at some points. She was very understanding and supportive. She basically told me I need to cut myself a break. Approved on first visit. I didn't know why some were so difficult. From all of the posts in this thread of people who weren't immediately approved, I say shame on those psychs. They should be weeding out people who truly aren't good candidates for reasons such as lack of commitment to the process, unrealistic expectations, or other things that put them in danger. Holding someone hostage because of their past experiences that aren't relevant is beyond ridiculous. Glad to hear most of you worked through it quickly.

My psych(o) brought up my mother as well. She was a bit of a nut case. But in the end she did approve me. Good luck!

I've been thinking a lot about eval coming up in two weeks... I am paying self pay so that I don't have to deal with insurance bs. My father walked out on my family when I was 13 I've paid lots and lots if money over the past 10 years for therapy... I'm not getting into any of that... I'm not gonna lie but I'm not gonna give too much info either... Strait down the middle... My husband his being sleeved this summer so no issues there..

8 weeks but who's counting?? THIS GIRL!

Wow it's a good thing I'm doing self pay. Sounds to me like I wouldn't have a chance in hell getting approved after previous eating disorders, drug abuse as well as a 'difficult but still loving' relationship with my parents.

Good luck :)

I had to go to another psych. The first one told me that though I don't eat when stressed, I am an emotional eater and should work on that for 6 months. Made no sense.

Went to the second psych and she wanted a phone follow up to see that I was following my pre op plan and I was approved

Just curious...do you think psychs are given a psych eval before they can do evals? Or is crazy contagious? If my daughter was considering a guy on Plenty of Fish who was a psych evaluator I would disable her computer!

I think there are some cases when emotional eaters freak out when they can no longer emotionally eat. If the only thing that keeps you sane is a half gallon of ice cream and you no longer have the ability to eat the half gallon, what will you do?

Pretend to eat a half gal of ice cream and instead have some cold Water and go workout! :) one obsession or another... :)

I was totally 100% honest in mind, about my childhood, the issues there, etc etc. We had a nice chat.

I won't harp on mental health, but I think it's the single biggest thing lacking in the bariatric community today and why we see the failures that we do. I'm glad that I sought out a counselor on my own.

Having said THAT... I'm glad she followed up with your personal counselor. I really think one visit isn't enough for them to base their decision on.

I was self-pay, but my doctor still required a fitness eval, psych eval and all that stuff. I loved that he still wanted to be sure I knew what I was getting myself into.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
