6 Days Post Op Questions...

Recommended Posts

Hi There,

I need some advice here. I am 6 days post op and I am able to drink more than the tiny sips now so I am doing that. I just realized the maybe this is a mistake and I could get a leak. I do not gulp but when I drink it is a somewhat normal size drink and not small sips. I hope I didn't cause damage and may get a leak. Also my back of the calfs hurt. Does anyone else get this? I worry about a blood clot although I am walking. Tomorrow is 7 days post op and I was curious if I am ok to try applesauce, refried Beans, cream Soups? I tried a popsicle yesterday and it hurt my pouch. Got bad muscle spasms so I guess I am not ready for that. I don't have a fever or anything but just wondered if it is possible to get a leak from too much liquid? Thanks all for any input.

I am 4 days out and being able to take more than a tiny sip at a time has been lovely. You would have to do some serious gulping to damage your new stomach. If you're having trouble with ice pops I wouldn't progress to solids so quickly. Call your dr about your pain and progressing your diet.

Thank you all for your reply's. Called Doctor last night and had to have an ultrasound to rule out blood clot. Thank Goodness it was negative and all is well. Glad I listened to your advice. Better safe than sorry.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
