What Was Your Cost In Us? Was There Program Fee?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new here and am researching costs for sleeve and found out my ins. United Healthcare will pay for 80% if in network. They said that they'll cover follow up visits and anything related to surgery. I only have $2000 left for my OOP max so I thought it wouldn't cost me that much BUT then I called one place that charges a "program fee" of $5600 ONTOP of surgery costs. I told them that really didn't make sense to me as my insurance is PPO and covers nutritionist, shrink, follow up visits and surgery. They said that they charge it as most ins. Don't cover that or x rays etc. and the supplements afterwards are expensive. My ins. Covers prescriptions so this seems just like a way they are trying to make more money....

What has everyone elses experience been? Did you pay for surgery and then program fee?

I also have uhc. My doctor does not have a program fee. Once my oop Max is reached I'm done.

Yeh, that's what I thought. It just seems like the doctor wants to sell another weight loss program afterwards for a weekly meeting and to see a nutritionist but when I looked at other Dr.s they either say follow ups are free or their post op meetings are free....

Tommyd, Did UHC cover your tests (xray, ekg) before hand and physch eval and seeing nutritionist? Did they cover follow ups and any supplements after?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
