Aetna Sleevers - Share Your Approval And/or Denial Experiences Here!

Recommended Posts

Hi. I have submitted everything needed to Aetna, except for my 2 yr. weight history. I have history since 2003, however I did not go to the doctor AT ALL in 2010. Ins. Has denied me right now because I don't have any weight history for 2010. I was told that this is the only thing holding up my approval. Has anyone had any luck getting around this? I hate to think I did all this work & spent all this money on co-pays, etc. only to be denied for something as small as this...Any suggestions??

Hi! So no sorry to say there is no way around that... that is my issue as of right now. I didn't have insurance in 2010/2011 so they denied me unless I can come up with some thing. Fortunately I went to the E.R a few times and my Surgeons office requested records I got 2010 still waiting on 2011 I was only given 14 days I know have 10. Did u go to the E.R at all during that time?

Dang try talking to ur pcp maybe they can write a letter on ur behalf. I know some people who said there dr... "doctored" up some clinicals if you catch my drift... other wise seek legal action... its in your plan. Some people dont get sick and need to go to the dr. Its not your fault u were healthy.

Vswannabe, it's almost 2013 so if you have weight history from 2011 and 2012, you should be able to have surgery in January.

I was thinking the same thing, however I was told last Wednesday that I'm losing my job and my insurance will only last through January 4th. My current coverage is awesome, I pay $300 out of pocket and the rest is covered 100 percent.. I will have my husband's insurance once mine runs out but he has a 90/10 plan and it will cost me substantially more. I hate that I paid a higher premium all year and now will probably lose out because I'm a few weeks shy of having weight history for 2 yrs. I almost feel like this is an omen and maybe I shouldn't have the surgery...just very disappointed with the whole situation. :(

My paperwork was sent to Aetna on the 15th' date=' this monday will be 2 weeks now.... I've called them twice now and it's still under review, but they gave me my reference number so its easier to look up when I call. I'm biting my nails here waiting for a response. They said the turn around time just depends on how busy they are.... Grrrrr, and to top it off my surgeons is booked up all thru november already and most of december! I would hate to have to wait till January and then have to meet my deductible all over again for the year! Fingers crossed they have an answer soon.[/quote']

I have Aetna and my paperwork was sent on the 8th of October and my letter had a date of the 18. I was told most cases it takes 10days. My doctors office called before I got my letter cause I was asking for a update. I called as well.

still waiting on final approval...

I have called every other day since my paperwork was submitted, and they keep telling me that it’s being still being processed – UHG! They should be tired of me calling…

Well I just found out today that my insurance will be extended thru Jan. 31St!!! However, it will be thru Cobra (employer is paying 100% for 1 full month). Has anyone had this type of experience???? I was told my coverage would remain the same & I would still use my Aetna card for services. Just afraid b/c this is all new to me....hoping someone has gone thru a similar situation...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
