3 Month Surgiversary!

Recommended Posts

October 2nd......3 months since I hand my sleeve done. I do believe I am a poster child for this procedure, as I have yet to be in pain or puke one time since my procedure. I am utilizing my new stomach as a great tool to lose weight - and I believe I have been successful - I am over halfway to my goal. In fact, I am almost "worried" my goal is not low enough.

I have caught flack on here for some of my meal choices - Oh No!! A Crispy taco!!! - but I am very proud of both the choices and portions I am eating. I was 307 at my heaviest, and 292 day of surgery. I was wearing a 3x top and tight sze 24 pants. Today I am rocking and XL top and 16 bottoms. It is working for me.

I still struggle to get my liquids in.....40oz is about average, and I KNOW I need more than that. I need to quit putting off dealing with my knee so I can start exercising....I haven't done any yet.

To anyone considering this surgery - research and research. Talk to those that have had it. Bad things CAN happen, however....Great things can happen too!!

I will try and update soem recent pics soon.....

Congratulations! I am just like you. I have never been sick or had any complications. I was sleeved on June 11th and am down from a size 24 bottom to a 16 and from a 2X/3X top to an XL. A total of 60 pounds on my 5'2 frame. I feel great and I look so much better. I didn't do it for what other people thought of me, but I get compliments everyday!! Keep up the good work!

So many congratulations on your weight loss. I, for one, will never have a problem with someone else's food choices. The way I see it, we're doing so much better than we did before, and we can learn to enjoy things we like in moderation. I love this tool! Goals are always changing! Hit your first one and see how you feel. I can't believe you have gotten so far without exercising. Does your knee feel better with the weight you have lost, or is it something that needs surgical fixing?

I will most likely need ANOTHER knee surgery - just putting it off. I am active though - I teach all day (rarely sit), we camp and I walk, my kids are in 4H and gymnastics, and I go, go, go......

I love to go walking - and I take my 5 year old (whoch is great for her!) - but her pace is not so good for me for a cardio work out. SO I guess what I am saying is, while I am not setting a time aside for some sweat dripping exercise, it sometimes just happens with my life......My knee feels a little better, but there was no miraculous cure.

I am also fortunate for my height.....however, it hid SOME Of my fat well, and now I have to lose quite a bit to go down an actual size.

Thanks for all the great comments - I hope I am encouraging to others. I love this site!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
