Can You Eat Out After This Type Of Surgery?

Recommended Posts

You can absolutely eat out. I live on the road and have been eating out all over the world. I am writing this from Mallorca Spain. I had Tapas last night, and salt encrusted sea bass the night before. Part of the secret is to eat at better restaurants. The standard American chain restaurants are some of the toughest. Try the little trendier places. Small plates and Tapas-style eating is the rage all over the world. It makes WLS easy. Focus on small, interesting, and flavorful dishes. The sleeve gives you a reason to be more adventurous at the table. You don't have to limit yourself to chicken breast and salmon.

Try Sashimi and Yakatori, satay, a whole Thai fried snapper, grilled octopus, Iberico ham, scallops in XO sauce, dim sum, duck breast, braised lamb shank, etc.... You don't eat and drink as much now so you can afford to eat better.

The sleeve diesn't make you sacrifice much. It just gives you a kick in the pants and forces you to try new things. Once you do that, you realize that the stuff you ate before was pretty pitiful.

don't EVER feel bad about not ordering something and just snacking off your dinner partner's plate (with their permission' date=' of course); bring a cooler if you think you may have leftovers ![/quote']

Great tip about the cooler. I used to say the only unforgivable sin was wasting food. Now what am I going to do?

@willow: the only reason I go to McDonald's is to get their sugar free ice tea. Any size is $1 right now so it is a really super deal to get a large. For me, I like to add 8 Splenda to it. The drink lasts me for a while!

We still eat out. Myfitnesspal app is wonderful & has lots of diff restraunt foods listed so you can view calories, fat, Protein, sugar & carbs. I order fish, shrimp, or chicken normally when we go out. I also take home over half & eat on it the next day for lunch & dinner. We ate at "The Cotton Patch" today so now I hv dinner tonight & lunch tomorrow (fish & shrimp).

I eat out all the time and I would agree that appetizers or tapas are perfect. I also agree that having a small cooler with you is wondeful. I actually always have my small lunch bag size cooler with me with refreezeable ice packs. Ince I have lunch the leftovers go in. I also always have it in some baby bell, Jerky, Protein Bars and so on and I keep it in the cooler that way no melt.

McD's is still a go to do me also. I love the ice tea for a $1 but you can also order the grilled chicken breast only for $1 I get a honey mustard for dipping and I am happy.

Yes, I do. This weekend we had guests over and ate out more than usual. Saturday lunch at greek sub place- side of marinated chicken, ate half. Sunday breakfast- ate sausage from biscuit, threw biscuit away, Sunday lunch at sit down country rest- shared off dh's plate 2 bites zucchini, 2 bites broccoli casserole, & a few bites of baked ham and pineapple. I usually try to order a side of grilled chicken or shrimp if I don't see a healthy kids meal (eat 1/2 or so) or don't want to share off someones plate.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
