I am 22 days post op. I am down 18 inches and 20 lbs. I have now run into some complications: diarrhea, stomach pains, horrible nausea... I am on day 6 suffering with this. Going in for a C-dif test and upper GI Monday- anyone had these issues related to the VGS? Looking for any suggestions for relief or anyone who can relate!

Yeah I can... I had the same types of things happen to me... I figured out that I had become lactose intolerant, so any Protein Drinks I mixed with milk made me sick as could be. The same went for the Greek yogurt I was eating in the morning as well. Maybe try quiting milk products for a day and see how that does. Good luck.

Wow sounds similar to my story except I also had a sinus infection and it was 10 days out. I don't mean to freak you out but I am still experiencing the nausea quite frequently every day. Went to surgeon and pcp today and both think the nausea is related to the coughing. I have also become lactose intolerant and it's much worse in the AM than any other time. Surgeon suggested crunching on some almonds or nuts about an hour to two hrs after getting up. That sometimes ppl get nausea from not having anything on your stomach.

Also, are you taking Prevacid or Prilosec? That could be the prob- excess acid build up.

I'm now on an anti nausea pill (phenegran) and hycosimine. But I still have trouble w liquids.

I would def see your surgeon ASAP as well as ur primary care incase it's something else.

Oh I almost forgot.. sugar free Popsicles work wonders from what I'm told.

I have not been to my pcp. I wet to the surgeon immediately. I am on Prilosec OTC and Zofran for nausea. I have become intolerant from all foods and liquids. I am scared of dehydration and malnutrition. I still eat and drink the best I can, but I am miserable. I am tired beyond belief, weak, in pain and waiting til Monday when I will have a C dif test and upper GI. This is day 7 of diarrhea.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
