Question about overfill

Recommended Posts

I'm getting ready for my first fill in a week, and I've been reading a lot about people who have been overfilled and have to go back for an unfill. Are these overfill's generally done with or without flouroscopy? I kind of thought that with flouro, you have a much better chance of not being over filled. Is that right?

I am travelling back down to Dr. Ortiz for my fill with flouro, and would hate to have to travel back for an overfill.

Thanks!

Kirsten, what you're referring to is most likely when people's bodies react to the fill days or weeks later resulting in a too-tight situation. Certainly fluoroscopy during a fill is going to allow the surgeon to be very precise with the adjustment then and there, and many doctors (mine included) swear by it for that reason. But it's not a guarantee that some time later on your stomach tissues won't swell and tighten the stoma up. That's a possibility at any time, even months later. And it's at times like that we need unfills.

Hi Kristen,

I get my fills from Ortiz (dr romero does them) too I had one unfill and it was due to me eating a piece of sushi at 10am about a week or so after a fill - it got stuck i threw up for two days and couldn't keep my saliva down Had to go emergency to tijuna for that unfill - very very expensive and no fun at all. i'm just now after many months back to my original fill - once you get an unfill you have to really let your tummy rest as get refilled slowly - big pain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
