Recommended Posts

:phanvan Ok I need some advice....I want to be totally unfilled. I want some time to decide wether I want the band removed or not. I was banded by Dr Szomstein in South Florida, and now live in South Carolina. So i need a dr here. It can be near Greenville SC or Charlotte NC. I live in between them!!!! Thanks so much!:help:

Can you give more details? Are you having a lot of side-effects?

Hi, what part of South Carolina? There is 2 doctors in the Columbia Area.. which is where I live. Go to scobesity.com and the number is on there.. They would probably see you if you have or can get your records.. I had my surgery in MX and they are going to do my fills with my records... If I can help in any way just let me know...

Robyn-

Although I don't know all the specifics of what you are going through that has led you to this decision, I can share some of what I have gone through that is along the same lines. There are times where I think the very same thing...."I need a rest...I'm tired of constantly thinking about my band.. Maybe if I just got unfilled and had some time to rest I could regroup and be remotivated etc etc..." I get sick of the pain, I still grieve the loss of food being my comfort--and is now the cause of painful misery...etc etc.

I have actually had several unfills in the past year, mainly because of all the surgeries I have had to undergo. But during those times where I am healing from surgery, and waiting to heal before my doctor will "refill me", I am have always been reminded all too well that I NEED my restriction. I say this because, without my fills I gain the weight back MUCH faster than I ever lost it. Once this past summer, I gained 18 pounds in 2 weeks!! (after losing over 100). While this is depressing for me to realize that I cannot go it alone without my band/restriction, it is also reassuring even after 4 surgeries related to my band, that I do in fact have it there to back me up when I am weak (and I am very weak).

I can't tell you what to do or not to do (especially not knowing all the specifics of what you are going through), but know I am thinking of you and wishing you well. Most importantly, I pray you will find peace of mind in whatever decision you make. Nobody ever said it would be easy, and it definitely is not. Best wishes to you, and sending hugs your way:girl_hug:

The reason I want to be unfilled and make a decison on my next move is it seems like the only food I can get down is JUNK JUNK. No good solid Protein goes down good. I know I must be too tight with the atmosphere change of moving from Florida to SC. Since the move I am back to 246. YUck. I just need a break from the band. I have other medical issues to deal with as well. Thanks for your help.

Need info too! There is much more to managing this "tool" than I had planned.

12 days after my first fill that didn't do much, I got nauseated most of the time but especially when I ate. It got worse. At first I thought it was the flu but 6 days later I suspect a post response to a tight fill, who knows why it was so delayed. I am on liquids for a few days to see if it settles down.

QUESTION: is the nausea a common reaction to a tight fill, especially when one eats solids?

I had a slip and nausea was definitely a common feeling then, so I get worried. It is probably nothing but I'd love to hear from others who have some experience! THANKS

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
