Recommended Posts

It's where your parathyroid produces too much Calcium and causes low Vitamin D and a lot of kidney stones I started getting kidney stones post op currently have 10 of them. They will be removing my parathyroid soon :/

I had my thyroid removed 3weeks before i was sleeved. During that surgery, they "peel" the parathyroids off the thyroid in order to leave them intact.....there are 4 of them, two each on the backs of each lobe of the thyroid. I guess they told you whether they will leave or remove your thyroid and how this will impact your need for Calcium. That would be my biggest concern".. How will this impact my calcium levels, bone strength, etc. My surgery was done as out patient and two days later drove 12 hours straight to be with my family for christmas. Surgery began at 11 and i was released about 4. I had a very bruised neck so keep it iced and i also had like a very weak monotone voice for about 2 months. The bruising started just under my chin, was about 6inches wide and ran half way down my chest. The nerves that control your vocal chords run across the thyroid. During the surgery, the nerves are stretched and traumatized, resulting in the voice issues. Hope this helps with knowing a little better what to expect. Good luck.

Thank you for your input.. I guess my husband will at least be happy if my voice cuts out for a couple of days. :)

Leave it to you to find a silver lining! :)

I need one! It seems this old body wants nothing more than to break down on me lately...

My husband wants to know if he should up the life insurance policy. He's going to love my newest problem :P

Lol, Laura. Since I got married, I have been diagnosed with ITP and had my spleen, half my thyroid, my gallbladder and 80% of my stomach removed. My husband told me he should have looked at my teeth before he bought me.

My husband is starting to question the whole marrying an older woman thing!

I told him, at least when I kick the bucket he'll still have time to remarry and have some fun!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
