How Long Does It Take For Them To Schedule Surgery When U Start?

Recommended Posts

My health insurance require 6 months of dieting, 3 of it being consistent. I just saw my dietian and completeled 2 months of PCP surpervised dieting earlier in the year, so I have about 3 to 4 more months of the diet part. Last year I did 2 months of PCP dieting also, so I really only need 3 months. Im going to go see my dietian twice a month, since seeing her is free(college student) and I want to make sure I have a good paper trail.

I too am just starting my journey. Iwent to the seminar and one on one consult on Thursday (Sept 6th) and I have my GI appt this Thursday. I had a over the phone call with my nutritionist today and have another one scheduled for next month. (I think I have to do that for 3 months) I have AETNA insurance and they verified everything so my ball is rolling. HOpefully I get a quick acceptance and get my surgery date soon!! I'm anxious!

Wow. You guys have to do some work!

I got my GP referral, could have been in to see the specialist the next week and had the op any time after that. Easy. Unfortunately, I have 2 more months to wait out until my insurance company will cover me (12 month wait for pre-existing conditions). If I were to pay myself, it could potentially be done in 2-3 weeks from my initial GP consult.

I had to document history of weight loss attempts, meet with dietician twice, see PCP and have him fill out form letter supporting surgery, attend 1 support group run by dr's office, have psych eval, get blood work, upper GI, EKG and chest X-ray. Once all that was complete, I met with doc again to review chart, and get surgery date. Then, they submitted to insurance company for approval. They rendered a decision within 1 week approving surgery. I had pre-admission testing on 8/30/12, surgery at 830am tomorrow. Good luck on your journey.

I hope I have a a nice smooth journey on getting approved, Aetna requires a 6 month diet, 3 months in a row. Lucky for me, I did a diet with my PCP for 2 months, and also the year prior, so if im lucky, I will be looking at 3 months of dieting, and I started this month. Heres hoping I can be a January sleever.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
