I am new to the site and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Holly..I am a 40 yr old cops wife and we have been married 15 years (he is the love of my life by the way)...I love to travel...live in Alabama and am 3 weeks post op.

I have struggled with my weight my whole life!! I was into sports when I was in high school but my weight really held me back. I got married young and gained A LOT of weight...then basically starved myself to lose it after I was divorced. Then I found the man of my dreams. You know what they say about a happy marriage...can I tell you that it definitely agreed with me. I gained 55 lbs in a very short time after we got married. My weight, of course, has fluctuated up and down 20lbs over the last 7-10 years. I tried everything..Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, Atkins, Diet Pills..you name it and I tried it with no real results.

We love to travel...cruises and the beach mostly. I made every excuse in the book to not do something because of my weight....and of course, there have been many excursions I wanted to do but couldn't because there were weight restrictions. I would even make an excuse not to go out with friends or hang out with new people....I was just so self aware and I hated the way I looked. I felt as if I was judged by the way I looked and how much I weighed!

Anyway....I made a decision in Dec 2011 to talk to my family doctor. I discussed with him what I was researching and he was in full support and referred me to Dr Todd Foreman in Huntsville, AL. My first visit was Dec 28th and my 6 month journey began Jan 25th. It passed so fast, which really surprised me. My insurance approved me in less than 10 working days!

I had my surgery Aug 20th and have dropped 14 lbs....YAY! It is weird to say, but it was a breeze for me. I had no complications, no nausea (thank goodness) and was back at work a week later...of course with restrictions. I have graduated to Phase III (pureed foods) and I seem to be doing ok. I have definitely been getting in the 60-80 grams of Protein in a day, mostly through Protein Drinks, taking my Vitamins and am starting a walking regimine.

I wish I had done this sooner! But glad I made the step to a better me. My hubby is so supportive and I could not make it through the day to day without him. I am looking forward to a new life and to new life experiences! I hope that this time next year, I will have lost enough weight to go ziplining in Jamaica! LOL!

Good for you, glad to hear that you are going great. I had my surgery 8/21 I'm down twenty something pounds but after 3 days in the gym the scale seem to be moving up. I'm not sure what's going on, but at least it helped with the trapped gas. I am so happy I made this decision.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
