Weight Management Class..anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So today I go for my first time to a Weight Management Class which is a mandatory step in my process of the getting approved for the sleeve. I was just wondering if anyone had already been to the class or one like it. I wanted to know what kind of things they do or talk about. Do they try to talk to you out of the surgery or discourage it? Just wanted to see what I was going into tonight.

Thanks

hello! I had to go to a couple of those classes preop, and then, according to my surgeon, I will hace to go one a month for life. ..... even though it is not mandatory in my case, it is encouraged. They are actually very interesting. Here they are totally pro-sleeve, and they share recipes, tips, clear out doubts, and remind you everytine of the basic things you have to do in order to succeed. Sometimes they even have guests, like a physician speaker, or a rep from Bariatric Advantage and they give out a bunch of goodies. I love those classes :)

Oh wow, thank you that helped a lot. I am hoping they are like that and support the surgery and everything. Did you have loose a certain amount taking the class? what if you lost to much weight?

are those classes given by your drs office? or is it a different thing? mine are part of his "process" . I wasnt required to lose any weight. I was self pay, but it did help during the preop diet and post op and still today ( 4 months postop), they even had a fashion show at macys last month :) hahaha..... wearing borrowed dresses in smaller sizes

I had eight classes, one per week. It's just education and encouragement with some group therapy mixed in.

It can be a little annoying and feel denigrating at first, but after completing the classes I felt that it was an overall positive and really helped motivate me to not only educate myself further, but to drop almost 40 pounds during and after the class before surgery.

The class was a requirement by my health group which is determining my approval for the weight loss surgery. I am required to take 18 classes once a week and 2 eval with a psychologist before I meet with the surgeon. Then I have to undergo any of his requirements. I need to call my Insurance plan again today and just double check that it is a covered benefit and that the approval is made by my medical group and not by them. ( kinda sounds off to me )

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
