Hello everyone, I've decided to have the gastric sleeve, my first consultant was August 22, after talking with the surgeon these are my requirement: blood work, psych eval, one visit with a dietitian, online teaching class, I ask the surgeon how will I know if I'm approved, he said that I will be approve, and I'm thinking WOW so where do I go from here?????? Well I had my blood work done the same day,,, my 2nd visit with my surgeon is Sept 18,,,my guess will be that he will be ready to schedule my surgery????

Hello Allsmiles45,

I was in the same boat as you just 2 months ago, but now I'm on my way. I'm not sure where your getting your procedure done at, but I will be getting mine done at Naval Hospital Jacksonville through Tricare Prime. It seems like your almost there

I too am very excited about starting this procedure as well. I have met with the surgeon, done the psych eval, met with nurse and on Sept 10th have an appointment with the dietician. The surgeon told me to try and lose 20 - 25 pounds prior to surgery and that is where I am now. I just started this Monday and the first day was so hard. I was hungry. But now on day 4, it seems to be going pretty good and the hunger is not there. I am following everything they said to do and I just pray that I lose some weight.

I know I made the right decision. I am so excited!! Best of luck to you all. I hope we can stay in touch.

Congratulations on your decision! It's a whirlwind - exciting and crazy. If you're going through insurance I would advise calling your insurance too, if you haven't already. Just to make sure there are no requirements that they require that your doctor's office does not. Most of the time the offices are pretty good about communicating the correct requirements to patients, but I've heard of cases where they have missed something - and it's better to put in one call now than to realize later that you didn't finish requirements and be set back for a couple months. Sit back and enjoy the ride =) You will be at your surgical date in no time!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
