Post Surgery Got Some Questions

Recommended Posts

Just had my surgery on the 15th, at first I couldn't even hardly swallow sips of Water and now all of a sudden almost a whole Protein Shake goes down. I also was able to eat a whole yogurt, some Soup, and Decaf tea is my new best friend. My question is, am I drinking too much? Is it odd that I can eat a whole yogurt?? Just want to make sure I'm not hurting my self, any feedback would be great!!!!!

I think you would still be on liquids at this time. I was eating a 1/4 cup of food for the longest time. I would check with your surgeon and see what he/she has to say. good luck.

Most of us don't truly have a lot of restriction until we get to solid food... and then, whoa baby, do we have restriction! I could barely eat half a scrambled egg when I started soft solids, but I'd been able to drink plenty of liquid, including Protein Shakes and yogurt, before that.

Greiga, it sounds like you're doing fine with your liquids. :) Keep up the good work.

I had surgery on 8/14 and am on full liquids until next week. I can drink Clear Liquids no problem but my Protein Shakes make me feel what I assume is "full". I had Tomato Soup last night for the first time and I stopped at about 2.5 oz with that same full feeling.

I think we are all trying to figure out the new feelings of hunger and full, I would call the NUT and just run it by him/her.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
