Has Anyone In The Dfw Area Used Dr Adam Smith With Fort Worth Lapband?

Recommended Posts

I originally wanted to have the lap band but am now 100% sure that I am going to go with the sleeve. I was going to see Dr. Kim but I have read mixed reviews regarding his bedside manner. I have made an appointment with Dr.Smith on August 28. Just wanted to see if anyone else has used him and what your thoughts and opinions were?

Thanks!

I'm in Bedford - when I started the process I lived in Plano but moved here a couple of weeks ago. I'm seeing Dr. Sheetal Patel - I have to use an HCA facility and she has privelages there at Med. Center of Plano so I'm just driving back and forth when I have to see the nutritionist. They have everyone pretty much there in their practice - her, nutritionist, psych RN... Makes it pretty convenient. They're called 360 Bariatrics.

I had my sleeve 7/31 with Dr. Nick. Every single thing was absolutely wonderful! I can not say enough good things about him. He has a great beside manner... Very funny... We cracked jokes and his voice reminds me of Nicholas Cage. I loved everyone in his offices and at the hospital. They are very thorough with instructions. He works out of Forest Park and Baylor Plano. Feel free to ask me any questions.

I used Dr. Kim. As far as his bedside manner, I've only seen him twice; first at my initial consultation, and secondly right before surgery. I thought his mannerisms were businesslike but polite, and he answered all my questions in the consultation. His staff is very professional. knowledgeable, and responsive. I have no issues with how little I actually saw Dr. Kim, as he is very much in demand. I selected Dr. Kim because he's one of the very best in the country, and that was the most important thing to me. I would not want to deprive someone else of his skills because I needed to "chat." If you need more one-on-one time, he might not be your surgeon. There are certainly plenty of well-qualified surgeons in the DFW area.

Thank you all so much! I think that finding the right surgeon is the thing that scares me the most! I want someone that is experienced for sure. I will have to look into Dr. Nick and maybe give Dr.Kim a try. Has anyone consulted with more than one doctor before making a decision? Also I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas does anyone else have them as insurance? I called and they said that I would only need a psyc eval and meet the surgery requirements regarding BMI. Has anyone had any issues with them?

KS FORT WORTH,

Thank you for your response. I still currently have my appointment with Dr.Kim too. I haven't canceled it yet after making the appointment with Dr.Smith. I might have to still go and see what he is like! I also wanted to say that I am so proud of you! You have come a long way in such a short time. That is awesome! Keep up the good work.

Thank you! I should have done this a few years ago, but I'm glad that most insurance companies cover it now.

I also did a consult with Dr. Wade Barker a week before Dr. Kim. I am sure he is also a fine surgeon, and Dr. Kim told me that he and Dr. Barker are friends. My wife went with me to both consultations, and on the drive home, before I could even ask her opinion, she told me that she had a better feeling about Dr. Kim. Since I felt the same way, our decision was made, just like that.

Good luck on your journey, I'm sure you will pick the right surgeon for you, and we'll see you on the loser's bench!

Same thing with Dr. Kim. He is one of the best in the country. Thats what i wanted not necessarily a warm and fuzzy. He seemed more than competent and his reputation as a surgeon is great. Have recommended him to others and will continue to do so.

I just had surgery on August 7th with Dr. Kim. I went to his office today for my first week check up and everything was great. I saw his PA's and they were so nice! You don't see Dr. Kim much, but I felt comfortable going into the surgery with him. All of the doctors that work with him have been wonderful! I definetly recommend Dr. Kim!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
