Drinking & Steak

Recommended Posts

Hi,

These may be silly questions ... but ... I will ask anyway.

I am thinking of getting Lap Banded ... but I am a big drinker (water that is) .... Are you still able to have big drinks of Water (ie 1 to 1 1/2 litres at a time) ... or do you have to do it little by little.

Also ... do most people have problems with steak ... or can you still eat it after banding. I have heard that it is not good to digest and just sits there.:hungry:

I don't have a problem with either one either. However, I am careful to make sure I always buy or order the better cut of meet, such as the filet mignon. They are much easier to chew to mush and get past the band.

You'll be able to sip liquids but no gulping and that's too much Water to drink all at once, space it out. Steak chewed well can be very satisfying. But do you enjoy steak? Or like many of us do you enjoy a huge steak? Big diff. If you can enjoy a small piece you will be okay.

I simply have ribeye or filet and I can eat steak (no more than medium) I can drink Water fast, but I will then burp very loudly... ~Mandy

I have no problem with steak. I actually find it goes down easier than ground beef. I have to sip my Water in the morning, but my band opens up during the day and I can drink it quickly.

Most folks don't have to sip, sip their Water. Pre-banding I thought I has to take sips of everything I drank. I pretty much drink as much as I want, except I don't drink for 30 minutes after eating. The Fluid will flush out your food.< /p>

Steak and I are "iffy." I can eat it now, carefully, but in my tighter band days it "no way!"

Are you still able to have big drinks of Water (ie 1 to 1 1/2 litres at a time) ... or do you have to do it little by little. I can chug, but I don't chug a liter at a time. Not because of my band, but just because I dont want to drink a liter of water at once.

Also ... do most people have problems with steak ... or can you still eat it after banding. I have heard that it is not good to digest and just sits there.:hungry: I don't eat steak. I did rarely before banding. I don't now because by the time I get it chewed, it's not worth it to me (considering how I wasn't that big of a fan anyway). That may have to do with liking it on the rare side - might be chewier that way, don't know for sure.

I can drink as much water as I want at once. I haven't gulped yet, but I usually take in 96oz + of water a day and have no problems still doing that. I can't have beef yet, but if I can't have steak, I will be a very, very sad bandster.

I love my steak. Like others, I find that T-bones, ribeyes, or Filet Mignons are very easy to eat. The texture is more tender and besides, they just taste better, lol. I also have no problem getting 80-100 oz of Water down daily. I only had to "sip, sip, sip" for the month or so post op. Now I can drink water at about the same rate as before. For me bread has been the one thing I HAD to give up. It never works, I dont even try anymore.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
