I'm seeing my surgeon for pre-op consult. We're going to set a date for the surgery (hoping for the week of the 20th, but will take sooner if offered!) Just so excited, scared, relieved, inquisitive, determined....*sigh* I could probably go on for days. I'm just ready. I'm ready for this weight to be taken off of my shoulders...figuratively and literally. I can't wait to be sitting on the losers' bench with all of you post-op'ers.

I know what you mean, and feel exactly the same way. I've lurked here for a while and thought about surgery for years. I went to my first seminar just last month and have my surgery scheduled for Aug 20 exactly. I'm on day 3 of my pre op liquid diet and just have to have my pre op tests (EKG, etc) with my PCP on Friday, then it's all waiting time. Only a month really has gone by though. When you know, you just know!

Keep us updated on your surgery date. I could always use more mid August surgery buddies! :)

Ahhh! Excited for ya. How's your pre-op diet going?? Are you about ready to scale the walls and lick windows or other crazy shenanigans?

Kimberlee, so beautifully put. My thoughts exactly. My seminar is Saturday and I can't wait to get going on the whole process. You all are right- when you are ready to get going, you are READY! Hopefully, I won't be far behind you guys.

Awesome! Welcome to the madness. Have you figured out all the steps you'll have to go through in your process, or will you find that out this weekend?

I get to find out all the hoops on Saturday. My insurance doesn't pay for bariatrics so I'm self pay. They say I'll have fewer hoops without insurance. we'll see. But I'm pretty sure I'll still do consult, EKG, psych and possibly a nutritionist. But the place I'm going has all these folks on staff and I'm hoping to knock them out in a day. Fingers crossed.

Please let us know when your date is after your consult.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
