Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

  • Popular Post

Let's get to know each other before our surgery...I'll go first. :)

My name is Amy (37 years old). I live in central FL with my husband and two kids, 3 yo DS and 4.5 yo DD. I work in IT doing technical writing and operational readiness. I love photography and have a small side business, and when I'm thinner, I really enjoy running and spinning.

I was banded in Nov 2009 at 374 lbs. From my banding until Dec 2011 (2 years), I lost 198 lbs. I was thrilled! Despite the occasional vomit and inability to eat certain foods, I was still 99.9% happy with my band. Right after Christmas this year, however, I got a terrible upper respiratory infection. I coughed and coughed and coughed. I coughed until I puked, which caused a slip.

I got a complete unfill in early January. Once the slip was fixed, I started getting fills. But then my band developed a leak and slipped once again. Since the surgeon I was seeing was less than helpful, I found a new surgeon, Dr. Domkowski, who finally treated me without acting like I was crazy, as my last surgeon did. Based on his recommendations and test results, we decided to do the removal and sleeve in two separate surgeries.

Dr. D removed my band on August 3, 2012. Because of the extent of damage done by the band, including scarring and pulling the fundus through the diaphragm, I am waiting around four months to be sleeved. I'd love to be banded on November 25, which would have been the three year anniversary of my band.

I've gained about 70 lbs since December. Sigh. The good news is my surgeon is not at all concerned about my weight gain. He is 100% convinced that I'll lose it all once I'm sleeved, since I was so successful with the band. I'm a bit of a goody two-shoes, and I followed the rules to a "T", and I intend to do the same with the sleeve.

I hope the next four months fly by!

Sorry for the double post guys, forgot to delete this account...

My surgury is November 6th. I am currently 21 and seeing as my birthday is in November as well i scheduled it as an early birthday present. Most of the info concerning the process ive gone through for my surgury is in my sig, and i have lost 40 lbs so far pre op. So far im really pumped to get it all started, the whole 30/30 drinking/eating thing is the only thing im concerned about as i am going to have to start forcing it more now.

either way if you guys would like more info please just let me know.

Congrats Both of you guys!

Add me to the list!

My name is Monica, and I'm scheduled for 11/12 with Dr Dat Nguyen in Manteca, CA.

I'm a single mom of three, fighting the cholesterol and BP that are creeping up due to obesity.

Best wishes to you all for a speedy recovery and great loss!

BTW, Amy (OP), do we know each other from another board?

I'm 11/12 too. 10:45 at Toledo Hospital, to be exact. Not that I'm excited or anything!

Dr. White is a genius, according to other sleevers but I almost wish I was doing this in Mexico because Ohio is already just too cold.

Christina,

I am also 61. Thank you so much for sharing your feelings. I was so moved that I read them to a small group of work friends. Which led to a very nice discussion about weight. One woman said she always thought heavy people felt the same as thinner people. The fact that you walk into a room and "size up the crowd" was a learning experience. Then I shared my thoughts too. Like tonight on the bus on the way home from work. The only seat left was one in the middle of 2 fat people. So I stood up. I was tired. I had worked on my feet for 5 hours. Last week, I was sitting in one of those 3 person seats and 2 heavy people squeezed in all I could imagine, was how funny we must have looked and maybe the bus would tip over, haha. I also can't wait to want to be in a picture again. I had some friends come to visit and they took pics and they posted them on FB. I nearly died. I was outed to all the people who had only known me as thin. Terrible. Well, all of that will soon be over. I wish we were closer in surgery dates.

Anyone else, the last week of November?

Hi Anslee,

I'm thinking my surgery will be the end of November. My Aetna 90 day requirement is over on Nov 14 and the paperwork then gets submitted to Aetna that day or the next. As soon as they approve my doc is fitting me in on his schedule. I'm excited and nervous! I know how you feel about the Facebook pictures....OMG... it's so humiliating. I want to be free of those self loathing feelings.....

My surgery is noe definitely scheduled for November 8th. I am on the second day of my Optifast diet. It's hard. But, I am doing it. Anyone else in my shoes?

You are the day before me! I'm November 9th. I don't have to do a pre op diet, but i'm doing one any way. I'm on day 3. I get a little irritated around 7pm and I do find myself just thinking about food for no apparent reason! Counting the days down!!!

Hi, Bynny! We most certainly do! :)

Hi, All!

I had my pre-op yesterday. So looking forward to this...

He said he expects me to be at goal within 10-11 months. I am ecstatic!

I got all the pre- and post-op instructions as well. Pre-op for a week. Post-op is Clear Liquids for days 1-3, add Protein Shakes for days 4-7, then pureed foods for weeks 2-4. After that, it's slowly adding in other foods.
