I couldn't lift more than ten lbs for 6 weeks. My surgeon warned that doing any more could cause a hernia near the incision they used to pull the old stomach out. Be careful.

Usually at 6 weeks....but even then take it easy and go slow....

my doctor said nothing 20lbs or over for 3 weeks

My doc said 8 weeks before I could lift or exercise outside of walking.

My doc said no more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks. I have to say, whenever I would push that limit, I would feel it at my incisions. I learned to ask people in the grocery store to put the case of water in my cart for me, or get my kids to carry the dog food in.

Interesting ... My Doc said I could start weight lifting again at 2 weeks.

I had to wait 6 weeks as well.

Thanks everyone. I have a handicapped son that I turn and lift. Just wanted to make sure that I did not do anything too soon!

I'm almost 2 weeks post-op and I've already resumed my normal activities (laundry, cooking, cleaning,) and lifting my kids (4 & 5 yrs old). Everyone is different, so just go at your own pace.
