5 Days Post. Questions About Liquids & Timing

Recommended Posts

Am drinking about 1 1/2oz at a time. Howy minutes do I need to wait before I begin to sip/drink again. Going through that fear of Over drinking & stretching my pouch or causing it to leak.

Just go very slow. Everyone is different so it's hard to say. For example, I was told to drink the 2 oz over the course of a 30 minute period taking little sips. When I got home, it drove me crazy to have to constantly sip on something so I'd just sip until I was satisfied then put the shake in the fridge and came back about 30 minutes later. I always had my Water with me though. You'll get a feel for your tolerance and sometimes it takes you to over do it to gauge it. That's how I was. I was afraid to do too much and then worried that I wasn't getting enough.

liquids can't stretch your stomach (you have a stomach, not a pouch) or cause a leak. My surgeon said no more than 2 oz every fifteen minutes, but early out I couldn't even manage that. Just do the best you can, Protein first.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
