Help! 1 Week Away And Head Cold

Recommended Posts

Have any of you gone through this? Will my surgery be cancelled? I have lost 8 pounds so far on my pre op diet and can't imagine doing it longer.

You have a week and head colds usually do not last that long. Get lots of rest, drink lots of Water. I also use zicam to cut down the duration of a cold. It has worked for me.

Go to the pharmacy and get ginger root capsules. They help get rid of the cold! I was a week away and my husband got a head cold and strep throat and I thought I would DIE! I had to avoid him like the plague and I was told about ginger root capsules. I also popped Vitamin C per the pharmacist (2x the actual dose on the bottle) and she said taking extra doesn't hurt you because you just pee it out. Best wishes!!!!!

sorry you are not feeling well

no fun getting a cold a few days prior to surgery :(

that being said, i agree talk to your pharmacist for any suggestions on what to take, Vitamin C for example is a good thought.

youi have time on your side.

everything should turn out as planned ;)

congratulation on enterring the wonderful world of the sleeve (very soon)

good luck on WLS :)

I feel for you ! Just be sure to are getting lots of rest and doing everything possible to fight it. I am a week from surgery and my whole family has a cold . I went out and bought some airborne ( some people say it works, others say it doesn't ) and am trying that and washing hands a lot . Zicam and airborne are supposed to help you get rid of it faster. I can definitely feel myself fighting something . I'm a little stuffy and have a scratchy throat. I just hope it doesn't turn into a full blown cold cause it always takes a while for me to get rid of them. This pre op diet is miserable and I would hate for us to have to extend it. I don't think its a good idea to have surgery with a cold since having surgery already puts you at risk for pneumonia. Plus, think of all the coughing colds can cause... Ouch! Hope you heal quickly!

I gotta agree with everyone else, get in lots of fluids and rest. At least so far it is just a head cold, so it's definitely possible it will go away. Before you take anything to help dodge the cold, I would clear it with your surgeon's office first. I know there was a large list of medications they didn't want me taking 2 weeks prior to surgery. Hope you feel better !

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
