Bad news on one of my preop testing for lap

Recommended Posts

I've been in the process of getting preop testing. I received some bad news about my eccho & nuclear stress test. They see a couple of blockages. I have to go for a cardiac catheterization this Tuesday, 9/12. They tell me that stents might be necessary, but they won't know until they get in there. Regretfully, this slows down the progress I was making toward getting a lap band. I was hoping to have it by the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Anyone have experience with this sort of problem? How long did you have to wait? Were there any particular problems? Just wondering.

Obviously, it's first things first, so I have to reset my priorities. Just looking for some further information about this situation.

As always, thank you.

Regards... Debi

Debi,

I'm so sorry for this set back. The thing is, you're on a road to better overall health and weight loss through being banded is only one component. Get your heart taken care of (which might happen quicker than you think, with or without the stints) and you'll be stable for band surgery. Then, you'll already be so much healthier than you were at the beginning of your journey!

Be one of those annoying patients who really follows up about getting appointments, tests and procedures scheduled ASAP and maybe there's a chance you'll be banded in this calendar year after all.

Let us know if we can help.

The time frame will depend on the Cardiologist and what is found when you have your Cardiac Cath. Hopefully it will be nothing too serious maybe just need angioplasty or stents. Keep in mind that you may need major open heart surgery depending on what is found (which arteries maybe block and how much blockage and about many are block) Good luck and prayers going out

Awe Deb, see? if i wouldnt have been for the pre-lap-band testing, this may not have been caught and corrected so early.

Hang in there!

You'll get another band date in no time!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
