I am excited and nervous to have my sleeve on Friday. Im so glad to be done with my pre-op diet, but super proud of myself for how well I've done. It really gives my confidence as I get ready to embark on this journey.

I had a bit of a strange experience today. So, not only am I a bariatric patient, but I'm also the administrator of a surgery department which includes a bariatric surgery program. Essentially, the program coordinator and nurses are my employees, and I work very closely with my surgeon on program development, operations, and marketing. One of the reasons I'm having this surgery is because I have spent 20% of my professional life over the last two years focusing on how to make my bariatric surgery program better. So, anyways today I was in a meeting with the surgeon who will be operating on me on Friday talking about business operations. He was giving me this whole list of things that he thought needed to be done, and I had to remind him that I would be out after the surgery he'll be performing on me on Friday!

It is definitely helping my nerves because my surgeon knows me, I know his outcomes, and would recommend him go anyone. I joked it's him when I left that I was a little nervous, but assumed he wouldn't kill me. He replied that he thinks he can manage that!

I can't wait for this to be over and to be on the other side!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
